Househunting 2011

Already starting to think about where you want to live next year?

Then Zuki says relax… it’s way too early – don’t act now!

Before you even think about looking for a house, it is important that you equip yourself with all the knowledge you need to beat the housing myths and learn the housing facts. Once you have signed a contract – you can’t go back, so it is important to understand it all beforehand.

There’s loads of things you need to know, so to help you with this, the Guild and the University have organised a number of events throughout the house hunting season. These include Roadshows, Fairs, Mixing Events and Contract Checking.

The SHAC, the Guild’s own letting agent, and Studentpad , the University’s online student accommodation service, have now opened their housing lists for next year. Both services are student focused, charge no fees to students and only use accredited landlords.

However, to avoid making a rushed decision without knowing the full facts, we strongly recommend that you don’t start looking until the Housing Fair (11th January 2011).

For facts not myths and everything you need to know about house hunting, please download our House Hunting Guide. You can get a hard copy of this guide by attending one of our Roadshows, which are currently taking place at residences near you! For a full events list, please click here.

Want to see how much you already know? Do our online Housing Quiz you might be surprised at how little (or how much!) you know!
For tips on good house hunting, then please watch our Housing video – presented to you by your very own Vice President (Housing & Community) Zuki Majuqwana and your Vice President (Welfare) Luke Reynolds.

If you have already attended one of our Roadshows and are worried you may have missed something, then please click here to see Zuki’s housing roadshow presentation.

If you have any questions about househunting, the please email us at mentorwelfare@guild.bham.ac.uk or drop by our Mentor Welfare Office, Monday to Friday 2pm-6pm, during term time.
