Healthy Living
Being healthy is an important part of looking after ourselves. What we do now can have a long term effect on the body. Walking to university rather than getting the bus/train/car or just reducing the amount you smoke, consume alcohol or fatty foods you eat can be highly beneficial.
Food
Food can affect our concentration, blood pressure, weight and a lot more so looking at this is a good part of a healthy lifestyle. Getting a varied diet is one of the most important parts about it but some people find it hard to know what to cook or how to cook it, check out Student Cooking TV which has lots of simple recipes and some interesting videos.
If you’re looking for a bit more information on healthy eating check out this NHS healthy eating web page.
Be Active
You don’t have to be a full on athlete or run a marathon to get the benefits from exercise, even the little bits count. Not all of us can afford gym memberships and to be honest you don’t need one. Gyms and Fitness classes are great but you can do it all for free on your own. Check out this NHS link for some simple tips on what you can do at home and what you can do for free.
If you’re looking for a gym, there is free outdoor gym equipment at Selly Oak park or you can go to one of the local gyms such as Tiverton Pool & Fitness, Munrow Sports Centre or others.
If motivation is an issue why not try a class where you will be in a group with other like-minded people, this can be fun and rewarding, many gyms put these on.
Drinking & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking both have heavy effects on your body for information on drinking or smoking follow the links below.
