Guild Elections are the biggest student election in Birmingham, and your chance to decide who will represent ethnic minority students until July 2025. This is your chance to do things differently.

Who will represent you for the remainder of this Academic Year? Who will make sure that your voice is raised at the highest levels of the University and the Guild? Only YOU can decide!

But how? All you need to do is explore the candidates in the running for the Part-Time Ethnic Minority Student Officer position, read their elections promises to see what they hope to work on if elected and cast your vote in order of preference.

If you have applied, you can still see all relevant documents relating to your chosen role and everything you need to know for your campaign below. You can also reach out to the Elections Team if you have any further questions.

Please Note: Within our Guild Bye-Laws and Election Regulations, In elections for Liberation Officer roles (of which Ethnic Minority Officer is included) it is expected that only Full Members who self-define as belonging to the demographic that the position represents shall vote in that election.

*Notice of Campaigning Period: For the By-Election, the official campaigning period will align with our voting period. This is therefore notice that campaigning and all associated regulations will be in effect from 10am on Monday 18 November until 4pm on Friday 22 November.

What Roles Are Available?

There is one role available:

This role is a paid Part-Time post and is open to any normally registered University of Birmingham student and is carried out alongside your studies.

For each role, meetings may be online, in-person or hybrid, and any access needs of students will be considered.

Please note - As per the Guild’s Bye-Laws and Election Regulations, elections for Liberation Officer roles (of which Ethnic Minority Officer is included) full members may only stand in elections for Liberation positions, who self-define as belonging to that liberation group.

Election Regulations

All candidates must take responsibility to read these regulations and ensure that their campaign teams know about these. Not knowing about the regulations is not an excuse for breaking them. If the regulations are unclear or you need more help at any time, please email the Elections Team.

Guild of Students Zero Tolerance Policy

The Guild believes that a Zero Tolerance approach should be taken towards any form of harassment based on defining protected characteristics that takes place in any of the Guild’s venues or events.

Complaints Procedure

The Complaints Procedure explains how we will deal with any elections complaints.

 

Complaint Form

A student or candidate wishing to submit an election complaint must do so by using this Complaint Form. This must be sent by email to elections@guild.bham.ac.uk.

All complaints must be substantiated with evidence in support of their complaint where possible.
