Assessment Support: Handy Hints and Tips!

Teaching for the year has finished and assessment support week has arrived! Students this year have persevered through the conditions of the pandemic and you should all be immensely proud of how you’ve done.

Here’s some advice and support to help you over that final hurdle before Assessments begin:

Tip #1- Utilise study spaces

The main library isn’t the only study space on campus! There’s a full list of opening times and capacities for Study Spaces available on the student intranet. Get in touch if you have any feedback you want me to pass on.

Tip #2- Access University resources

Something I’ve lobbied for this year is for the University to create an ‘Assessment Support Hub’ that students can access for academic support. This is available on Canvas with tons of tips and guidance as well as a timetable of useful upcoming workshops.

Tip #3- Seek support if you need it

The Guild is running a ‘De-stresstival’ throughout exam period take some of the stress out of exams and provide some useful tools to help you out. You’ll find academic drop-ins with Guild Advice, tons of revision tips and information on giveaways!

If you need somebody to talk to, we have a dedicated Guild Advice department ready to support you. Just email guildadvice@guild.bham.ac.uk and one of the team will be happy to help where they can.

If you live in University accommodation, Student Mentors are also trained to offer you help and available for 1-2-1 support. If you feel like you’d benefit from this please email mentorwelfare@guild.bham.ac.uk.

Alternatively, the University has recently launched a brand new support service. Call the service on 0800 3685819 (Freephone) or text ‘Hi’ to 0035387 369 0010 for SMS & WhatsApp Support (standard rates apply). The service is 100% confidential, available in 25 languages and free to use as a University of Birmingham student.

Tip #4- Just Ask!

If you have any general questions, you can get in touch with me at Education@guild.bham.ac.uk

Library Services have a ‘Just Ask’ live chat service if you have any questions about study spaces

We’ve just completed some Q&As with the Directors of Education who have provided some guidance on what’s specifically going on in your college!
