Voting Opens 4 Dec. Who will represent UoB Students?

Guild Elections are the biggest student election in Birmingham, and your chance to decide who will represent students until July 2025. This is your chance to do things differently.

Right now, we’re looking for the people who want to apply to be the next Guild Ethnic Minority or Trans and Non-Binary Students Officer!

You must submit a written statement (manifesto) and photo by the nomination deadline in order for your submission to be accepted.

Please Note: As per the Guild’s Bye-Laws and Election Regulations, elections for Liberation Officer roles (of which Ethnic Minority Officer and Trans and Non-Binary Students’ Officer are included) full members may only stand in elections for Liberation positions, who self-define as belonging to that liberation group.

*Notice of Campaigning Period: For the By-Election, the official campaigning period will align with our voting period. This is therefore notice that campaigning and all associated regulations will be in effect from 10am on Wednesday 4 December until 4pm on Friday 6 December

What Roles Are Available?

There are two roles available:

Ethnic Minority
Officer

Part-Time Role

As the Ethnic Minority Officer you would...

  • Campaign on issues of concern to students of an ethnic minority.
  • To support the work of any Student Groups relevant to their role.
  • Promote the interests of Ethnic Minority students to the University of Birmingham, the Guild and wider as appropriate.
  • To ensure that representation of Ethnic Minority students occurs at all levels of the Guild in the absence of a committee.

Trans and Non-Binary
Students Officer

Part-Time Role

As the Trans and Non-Binary Students Officer you would...

  • Campaign on issues of concern to Trans or non-binary students.
  • To support the work of any Student Groups relevant to their role.
  • Promote the interests of Trans or non-binary students to the University of Birmingham, the Guild and wider as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the Guild actively promotes initiatives to ensure that the welfare and interests of Trans or non-binary students are protected.

These roles are a paid Part-Time post and are open to any normally registered University of Birmingham student and is carried out alongside your studies.

For each role, meetings may be online, in-person or hybrid, and any access needs of students will be considered.

Guild of Students Zero Tolerance Policy

The Guild believes that a Zero Tolerance approach should be taken towards any form of harassment based on defining protected characteristics that takes place in any of the Guild’s venues or events.

Complaints Procedure

The Complaints Procedure explains how we will deal with any elections complaints.

 

Complaint Form

A student or candidate wishing to submit an election complaint must do so by using this Complaint Form. This must be sent by email to elections@guild.bham.ac.uk.

All complaints must be substantiated with evidence in support of their complaint where possible.

When you apply you must submit a written statement to tell everyone why they should vote for you, and a candidate photo. You can find advice on how to do this in the documents below.
