We are aware of the current bin strikes and the impact they’re having on the local student community, and we encourage you to voice your concerns if you're struggling with the situation. You can sign this student-led petition or write to the council directly to express your frustration and push for a resolution.
We recognise that some of you may be returning home for the Easter break, but please remember the following important information:
What You Can Do:
- Continue to put your household waste out on your usual collection day and leave it out until it is collected. If you have excess waste, place it in black bags next to your wheelie bin.
- If possible, book a slot at a Household Recycling Centre to dispose of recyclable waste. We know this may not be possible for everyone, especially if you don’t have access to a car.
- Sign the petition or write to the council to let them know how the strike is affecting you.
What We’re Doing:
- At the Guild, we’re speaking with local MPs to understand their perspective on the issue and see how we can lobby the council to reach a conclusion.
- The Community Warden team are also completing weekly litter picks to clean up the streets where they can.
- We have also raised this matter with the University to ensure that they are aware and are considering ways to support students.
We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated with any developments as quickly as possible. For more information, visit the council’s website.
