Following the University’s successful Green Week, I’m excited to announce that the Guild will be running our annual our Go Green Week during the week of 24 March!
During the week of 25 November 2024, our university came together to celebrate Green Week, which spotlighted sustainability and encouraged students to get involved in learning more about what the University does for sustainability. The week was packed with a range of events, from free bike health checks to talks from staff in the sustainability team and a day dedicated to celebrating students’ achievements and information sessions targeted at students. I attended some of these events and it was amazing to see some of the research projects that students are doing around the theme of sustainability.
As the Sustainability Officer for the Guild, I was proud to play an active role in supporting the University’s Green Week. We contributed by running a Sports Night Costume Swap Shop (led by the Sports Officer and supported by myself), and a COP29 panel event (hosted by myself). The Swap Shop helped students to reduce waste and provided them an opportunity to acquire some pre-loved Sports Night costumes and accessories! The COP29 panel featured a range of expert speakers which contributed to the discussion and answered students’ questions about COP29, whether it serves its purpose, and what we want to see from it in the future. This COP29 event has inspired the University to consider alternative ways they can reach out to students to share information. Both events saw good engagement from students, and I had some great conversations with students throughout the week.
Following the University’s successful Green Week, I’m excited to announce that the Guild will be running our annual our Go Green Week during the week of 24 March! I’m already working with a wide range of teams and student societies across the Guild to develop an engaging schedule of events that will cater to students with different interests. There will be multiple types of events happening during the week, so make sure to keep an eye out for announcements about everything that’ll be taking place as we recognise and discuss all things sustainability.
I’m really looking forward to delivering Go Green Week in March to deepen our collective commitment to sustainability, increase students’ awareness, and support the deliverance of some of my manifesto goals!
