The Guild of Students has celebrated the appointment of the University of Birmingham’s first ever female Chancellor.

Sandie Okoro OBE, an alumna of the University with a degree in Law and Politics, takes up her role as Chancellor this month (July).

Speaking on behalf of the current and new officer team Amira Campbell, President (2023/24) said:

“Sandie Okoro has made an amazing contribution to diversity, equality and women’s rights and we are delighted that she will be bringing her experience, energy and knowledge back to our University. We’re looking forward to welcoming her to the Guild of Students and engaging her with our members.”

Ms Okoro succeeds Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea CBE who steps down following 10 years in the role.
