The Ahlulbayt Islamic Society (ABSoc) offers an inclusive, supportive and accepting environment for Muslim students on campus who identify as followers of the Ahlulbayt.
As a collective, we aim to embody and promote the values of the Quran, the Holy Prophet PBUH and his holy Household (the Ahlulbayt) within our society and on campus.
We carry out various events and initiatives throughout the year, including:
Dua Kumayl Discussion Circles (DKDC's) - these are a weekly gathering that takes place on Thursdays where members take part in the Dua Kumayl Supplication, followed by a thought-provoking discussion on topics ranging from religion to current affairs and politics!
Campaigns - every year we take part in campaigns to raise awareness about significant causes, for example, the annual ABSoc Ashura Awareness Campaign is a social justice campaign that focuses on raising awareness about oppression taking place in the world today, inspired by the personality Husayn ibn Ali (grandson of the Holy Prophet) who took the ultimate stance against injustice. Whether it be Palestine, Yemen, Kashmir or beyond, ABSoc will stand against oppression taking place anywhere in the world!
Socials - on a regular basis we organise social activities for our members to develop and foster friendships and community bonds. Whether it be through games nights, bowling or dinners, you are guaranteed to have a great time and develop life-long friends in ABSoc!
We are a society open to all those who would like to learn more about the Ahlulbayt and Islam, so please do not hesitate to approach us and do consider joining us!
