Bengali

We are a society at the University of Birmingham, established in February 2014 in response to students recognizing the need to promote and inspire the younger local Bengali generation to pursue higher education, while also creating networking opportunities for future Bengali graduates.

We recognize the underrepresentation of our community at Red Brick institutions like ours, which produce highly skilled candidates for the future workforce. Our goal is to lay the foundation for changing this underrepresentation.

Over the summer, our committee has been actively working to identify opportunities to foster connections among Bengali students at the university and to reach out to younger members of the community, serving as a source of inspiration for their success. Our aims, as outlined in our constitution, are as follows:

• Unite Bengali students at the university
• Celebrate and express Bengali culture within the university community
• Challenge stereotypes by collaborating with other societies
• Host events focusing on cultural issues
• Inspire local youth at schools and colleges by engaging with them through mentoring programs
